School Counseling
Welcome to the School Counseling Homepage!
The school counselors at Sand Hill-Venable Elementary School are Ms. Shelly Burlew; 2nd-4th grades) and Ms. Lynn Michie (cynthia.michie@bcsemail.org; K-1st. We advocate for students in regards to academics, personal and social development, and career and future planning, serving each student from an individualized approach. We will be teaching students in a classroom setting, as well as meeting with students individually and in small group settings.
Because we encourage students to respect individual differences, our counseling program also includes an anti-bullying component. In addition to fostering resiliency and teaching assertiveness skills, we teach about cyberbullying, or bullying others through technology including e-mail, text messages, and Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and other social media sites. Since most cyberbullying occurs outside of school, we advise parents to monitor computer and cell phone use closely. Please let us know if your child receives threatening messages. Students who cyberbully often engage in more traditional types of bullying at school as well. To stop cyberbullying, we recommend that parents observe the guidelines for social networking sites; Facebook is recommended for students who are 14 years of age or older.
