Meet the School Counselor!
School Counselor
Tara Mowrey

My name is Tara Ross-Mowrey, the students know me as Ms. Mowrey, and I am the school counselor at Pisgah Elementary School. I been a school counselor with Buncombe County Schools since 2010 and I absolutely love it! I am originally from Ohio and attended Ohio University for my BA in Child and Family Studies. During college I also obtained a minor in Spanish. I was fortunate to be able to study abroad in Pamplona, Spain where I became competent in speaking Spanish. After college I moved to Asheville and worked for Asheville City Schools Early Head Start Program. Eventually I decided to return to college to obtain my Master's in School Counseling from Western Carolina University. I recently obtained my National Board Certification as well.

The purpose of the counseling program at Pisgah Elementary is to provide a safe environment for students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. I work with students in many different capacities including classroom guidance, small groups and individual counseling. Guidance lessons focus on topics such as bullying, friendship, goal setting, manners, diversity, career exploration, and conflict resolution. Students are referred to me by parents, teachers or by themselves. Please do not hesitate to contact me.

School Counseling Program Vision Statement

The School Counseling Program employs creative and strategic techniques that support students, parents, and teachers, and creates a community where all individuals are safe, self-assured, and accomplished. We assist students in recognizing their own strengths and implementing them to advance their learning in school and throughout life. Students are viewed as holistic individuals whose voices and visions are valued and essential to the school and global community. The program prepares students to enthusiastically contribute their innovation, skills, and insight to society in order to create a future that is environmentally responsible, intellectually progressive, and embraces diversity.
