My name is Kristin Keliher, the students call me Ms. Kristin. I started at Pisgah Elementary in October of 2014 and have loved getting to know the children and the community in this beautiful area of Western North Carolina. I have worked with children in many settings; I value the perception of children and enjoy learning from them. I am originally from New York where I finished my bachelor’s degree from Albany University. I have been in Asheville since graduating with my bachelor’s degree in 1997, I fell in love with the mountains and beauty of this area and have been here since. I have had several jobs working with children including being an after school director at a local school.

I believe elementary education provides the foundation for student’s achievement throughout their school career and life. I believe my role is to work as a team with teachers, students, and parents to foster integrity, a love of learning, and responsibility in a safe environment for students to grow academically, emotionally, and socially. This is accomplished by interacting with children in classroom guidance, small groups, and individual counseling as well as meeting with parents and teachers.

School Counseling Program Vision Statement

The School Counseling Program employs creative and strategic techniques that support students, parents, and teachers, and creates a community where all individuals are safe, self-assured, and accomplished. We assist students in recognizing their own strengths and implementing them to advance their learning in school and throughout life. Students are viewed as holistic individuals whose voices and visions are valued and essential to the school and global community. The program prepares students to enthusiastically contribute their innovation, skills, and insight to society in order to create a future that is environmentally responsible, intellectually progressive, and embraces diversity.
